About Mindful Travelogue

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Iceland

Hi, I’m Lucy. I am a world explorer with a passion for travel to Asia and to international yoga retreats. I frequently take my parents with me to show them how to travel outside of their usual cruise ships and tour buses. My travel goals are to connect with locals and fellow travelers through food and by exploring their culture and history.  I live in the Pacific Northwest and work for Airbnb.

Traveling outside my comfort zone has helped me grow as a woman and as a world citizen. It has helped me build resilience, problem solving skills, and confidence. I first traveled outside of the US by visiting my parents’ hometowns, Toisan and Mui Wo, when I was a child.  As an adult, I moved to China for 5 years to teach English. Since then I have been on dozens of trips for work, to explore yoga retreats, and to help my aging parents see the world.

Traveling outside your bubble allows you to encounter things you are unaccustomed to. It helps you become more open-minded and expand your capacity to accept others. Exploring the world is a privilege that I’m grateful for and one that has helped me to become a more compassionate human. Travel is an important vehicle to help build human connection and understanding.

I love connecting with people around the world through food. Anthony Bourdain is a huge inspiration to me. I also attend yoga retreats abroad to find like-minded folks. I embrace traveling solo or with fellow female travel partners. I just went to Bhutan on my own at the end of 2019. I loved it so much that I’m already planning to return when it is safe to do so.

My intention with this blog is to showcase my travels to inspire exploration of other countries especially for women and solo travelers. My blog will cover traveling to learn about your roots, connecting with like-minded folks, developing compassion, using work travel as a means to explore the world, and teaching English as a tool to live abroad. I also will cover traveling with feisty, opinionated senior parents.

I’ll cover tips and information on how I travel and share my personal stories about living and  traveling abroad. Check back weekly for new blogs, countries, and travel stories starting next week with my 2019 trip to Bhutan. It was spiritual, serene, and gave me altitude sickness. Looking forward to sharing!
